H'art Centre

H’art Centre is an award-winning, fully accessible space where people with disability and those facing barriers can study, enjoy and produce works in the arts. It is a place where anything creative can happen. It strives to be leader in the Disability Arts movement and it champions accessibility, indirect learning, understanding,
public engagement and community collaboration.

H’art Centre believes:
• All people have the right to study, enjoy, produce and experience the arts
• Diverse identities, perspectives and practices should be recognized, experienced and valued
• Disability art should be supported, promoted and advanced
• The artistic process and practice is as important as the artistic outcome
• The arts should express a reflection of one’ experiences to promote understanding
• In the practice of public engagement, community collaboration and inclusivity
* Literacy and social skills are essential to the long term health and happiness of our participants. The arts offer an excellent chance to develop these transferable skills.

We offer the following programs:

H’art School
Our core program helps adults with an intellectual disability reach their highest potential through education and the arts. It offers visual arts, theatre, dance, music, media arts and literary arts workshops under the guidance of qualified teachers and professional artist mentors. The arts offer an excellent chance to develop
transferable social and literacy skills. Participants in this program can work towards participation in the Inclusive Post Secondary Education program.

Inclusive Post Secondary Education
We offer this program through a voluntary arrangement with the Faculty of Education at Queen’s University. Our participants can take part in classes on campus based on their own interests, many of which are arts based.

THE BOX
Our outreach program supports, promotes and advances a diverse and inclusive population within accessible performing arts experiences in our 3,500 square foot fully accessible performing arts studio. It encourages community collaboration, audience development and public engagement.

Fostering opportunities for people with disability and those facing barriers to study, enjoy, practice and produce works in the arts.
